Phifer is currently looking for Production Operators to join its team in Fayette.

Production Operators

Base Pay: $12.85 per hour + Skill Pay, Tack-on Pay and Incentive Pay

By week 4, Operators should reach Total Pay of $15.35 per hour

Job Summary:

Production Operators run a production line in yarn coating consisting of all tasks from the startup of a production line to the staging of the completed doffed packages. This position also includes performing quality inspections and the documentation of actions performed in the preparation of the staged yarn packages. Management may assign additional duties as needed.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge of basic math at the 8th grade equivalency level
  • Knowledge of locating essential information
  • Knowledge of identifying essential information
  • Skills in correctly cutting excess yarn off winder spindles
  • Skills in handling and boxing packages
  • Skills in correctly operating a raw glass splicer
  • Skills in estimating the run time of bobbins filled with raw glass
  • Ability to interpret information and instructions by reading
  • Ability to prioritize job functions in order to keep packages doffed and line running quality packages
  • Ability to adapt to changing conditions

Education/Experience/Certification:

  • Prefer a High School Diploma or GED
  • Knowledge of basic reading and mathematics at the 8th grade equivalency level or higher (will be assessed)
  • Prefer 6 months' previous work experience in a manufacturing or heavy industrial environment
  • Prefer experience in yarn coating operations
  • Will have or can obtain certification to operate and refuel material handling equipment

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to push, pull, front carry, horizontal lift, floor to waist, and waist to crown lift using correct lifting procedures
  • Frequent standing and walking
  • Occasional stooping, squatting and/or half kneeling
  • Occasional lifting/lowering packages weighing 20-26 pounds
  • Must have 20/35 or correctable vision in each eye
  • Ability to work in hot to very hot weather conditions
